Welcome

Welcome to my homepage!
Finally everything is working :) It wasn’t easy to get to this point, but I’ll bore you with that later.

Who the hell is this guy?
Let me introduce myself: my name is Sam David Christophe Schmit van-Werweke. I’m a 24 year old student from the small but beautiful country Luxembourg, studying computer science and economics in Trier, Germany.
Want to get to know my even more beautiful, sweet, kind and caring girlfriend? Then have a look here: http://sylla.party.lu. Don’t try to understand the text, it’s in Luxembourgish. Under the menu item “Bärchi an Teddychen” (Bärchi being her and Teddychen myself, both minimizations for bear. Aren’t those cute pet names?) you’ll find some pictures of us together. Man she’s pretty! And sooooo sweet! I love her from the bottom of my heart!

Why?
That’s simple: I had too much to do! Sounds stupid, I know, but that’s me. You’ll find that out for yourself soon enough…
No seriously, things are starting to pile up. I really needed a win and as I know my way around computers, the internet and web sites, I started this site. Plus, my last name being Schmit (the Luxembourgish equivalent of the English Smith), I think it’s kind of cool to have the domain schm.it ;)

Strange name… Sam David Who?
It might be just another name to you, but it is kind of special for someone from Luxembourg… if you’re not Portuguese :P  And my father is the one responsible for it. He was obsessed with the American way of life when I was born, so he added David and Christophe to the list of my first names. That way I could call myself Sam D.C. …
That I have two last names, being an unmarried man, can be explained by the fact, that my great-great-grandfather was adopted by a Dutch family at an age over 21. That way, their last name was appended to his instead of his last name being replaced.

Luxembourg? Never heard of it!
Don’t be ashamed, you’re not the only one. My girlfriend has just finished her studies in England and wanted to close her bank account. The teller told her, that he couldn’t accept her her identity card, Luxembourg not being in the EU… STUPID!! Luxembourg co-founded the EU!! Sadly enough, this happens a lot… The same thing happened to a friend of mine when he tried to cash a check at a bank in Italy.
If you want to belong to the exclusive circle of people who know about Luxembourg, just take a look here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Luxembourg

What problems were you talking about earlier?
Well:

  1. All interesting domains containing the word ’schmit’ were already taken,
  2. i couldn’t think of a better one until I came up with schm.it,
  3. my registrant didn’t want my visa,
  4. then they blocked my account… two times!
  5. and, as if this wasn’t enough, my registrant was unable to guide me through the whole process of registering an it domain (you have to fill out a special form, written in Italian, and fax that to the maintainer of the domain, which in my case is Tucows)

But still, the support team at http://www.registerfly.com is really nice and very fast! And they finally got everything up and running!

What’s to come?
That’s a good question! Maybe I’ll use this as a diary, maybe I’ll post some interesting computer or internet related articles (ex.: internet explorer css hacks) or, if I ever find the time for it, I’ll start developing some applications (Joomla or .NET) and will post about them here… you will have to check for yourself ;)

Happy reading everyone! I’m going to bed now,
Sam

Your Comment:

It’s been a veeery long time since my first post… 3 years ago. Seems I didn’t get my win… Well, in fact I did, but that’s what this post is all about.
